The Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) announces that applications will be accepted for scholarships for students, trainees, technologists and young professionals to attend the 20th Annual Scientific Sessions to be held February 1-4, 2017 in Washington, DC at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.  The Scholarships are offered to defray travel and lodging costs associated with attendance at this important CMR meeting. The recipients of the Scholarships will be selected by members of SCMR’s Education Committee. As of the application deadline August 22nd, candidates must hold membership in SCMR (associate, trainee, technologist or full) valid through 2017, the year of the meeting, and may submit only one application in any one year.  Previous SCMR scholarship awardees may not apply again for a scholarship.
 
The purpose of the award is to encourage students, trainees, technologists and young professionals to attend the Annual Scientific Sessions and become active in SCMR. The Scholarships are funded by SCMR as follows:
  • A total of up to $20,000 USD in scholarships will be awarded.
  • The number and dollar amount of awards will vary from region to region, depending on the number and quality of applications, and the estimated cost of travel from the region to the meeting.
  • Free registration to the 20th Annual Scientific Sessions and pre-conference courses is included.
  • The Scholarship awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony in Washington, DC.  Winners must attend the 2017 meeting to receive the award.
 
Individuals selected must meet the following criteria:
  • At the time of application, SCMR Membership (associate, trainee, technologist or full) must be valid through the 2017 meeting.
  • Be the presenting author of an abstract accepted to the 20th Annual Scientific Sessions. If your abstract is not accepted, your application will be disqualified.
  • MD or PhD applicants must be the first author of an abstract accepted as an oral or poster presentation at the 2017 SCMR Scientific Sessions.
  • Applications for the Technologist Scholarship need not be the first author of the qualifying abstract.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
    • be in training or less than10 years after MD or
    • be less than 5 years after PhD or
    • be MR technologists and radiographers who spend at least 50% of their time on CMR.
  • For MD or PhD applicants, the candidate must be within the time-frame specified for the first degree awarded.
 
Prospective candidates must provide the following for consideration:
  • Complete the online application on the Abstract Submission Site
  • Upload Curriculum Vitae (three page limit).
  • Letter of recommendation (one page limit) on official institutional letterhead from the applicant’s training supervisor, program director or department chairperson. 
 
Applications may be submitted electronically by August 22nd.
